Staying at home doesn’t have to be boring. And it doesn’t have to be a Netflix binge, contrary to popular belief. While I’m not trying to diminish the fun of Netflix and chill, either.
But, a change in pace is excellent for a healthy relationship. So if Netflix and chill (or not chill, but you want to) is your norm, these fresh at home date night ideas will assist you in building a more invested and meaningful relationship with your partner.
Why Date Night with Your Spouse is Important
Chris and I try to include one date night every week. It’s an important part of our relationship as it breaks us from the day-to-day role of parents and homekeepers and allows us to focus on each other.
This keeps our relationship strong and there’s always something fun to look forward to each week.
Depending on the time of year, our finances, and other factors, we do a lot of dates nights in the comfort of our own home.
Babysitters are expensive and I get a twinge of anxiety every time I think about leaving my babies with someone I don’t know on a family level. Going out is expensive. And sometimes I really just want to do date night in my favorite pajama pants with no makeup on.
At first, at home date nights may seem less intriguing than the bar scene, a fancy dinner date, or a couples massage. But once you begin your evening (or afternoon) you will be surprised by how enjoyable and intimate having an at home date night is.
Because it’s up to the two of you to create a meaningful night together, the entire process becomes a team effort. The planning and execution is an intimate adventure that will help bring you closer and feel a deeper understanding for the other person.
So, don’t go into this thinking it’s going to be less enjoyable than date night at the bar. You and your partner mutually get to decide how good of a date night you have.
Once you have successfully done a few at home date nights, it will feel easy and almost effortless. Don’t take it for granted. Dedicate this time often and your relationship will grow leaps and bounds.
